West York High School Football Hall of Fame
Bylaws for Nomination and Selection
Purpose
The purpose of the West York High School Football Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those West York High School football athletes, teams, coaches, administrators, and supporters who excelled in their sport or coaching/support roles and who helped to bring honor, recognition, distinction, and excellence to the Football program by their conduct both on and off the field. This recognition will help maintain the spirit, pride, and sense of community, and serve as a historical record of the great athletic traditions of the Football program.
Details
The Hall of Fame will not have a physical location within the school. The award recipient will receive a plaque honoring their selection into the hall of fame.
Eligibility for Nomination
Athletes are eligible for nomination 10 years after their class’s graduation. They must be in good standing or in special circumstances as determined by the Talent Committee. Such athletes must have earned a varsity letter for football at West York High School and must have excelled in such sport. Among the accomplishments taken into account will be individual (all-County, all-District, all-Region, all-State) and team accomplishments, individual school or team records held, and impact on teams and the overall football program at West York High School during their era and accomplishments thereafter.
Nomination is also open to coaches or administrators who must have participated with distinction and/or made significant contributions to the football program at West York High School, as evidenced, for example, by the success of their teams and the acknowledgment of their former student-athletes. Such coaches or administrators shall be eligible for nomination beginning five years after they have left the program for any reason, or in special circumstances as determined by the Talent Committee.
As determined by the Talent Committee, contributors will also be considered for nomination based upon their service and dedication to the football program at West York High School.
Nomination Process
A candidate may be nominated for Hall of Fame membership by any member of the community. A candidate may also be nominated by a member of the Hall of Fame Board and Talent Committee. Formal nomination shall be made using the nomination form. The nomination form must be received by the Chairperson of the Hall of Fame, by the last day of February for consideration in the upcoming football season. Information relating to a nominee's career statistics, records, achievements, etc. must be supported by accompanying documentation or sources cited so that the information may be verified independently. The nomination form will be available through the Board Members and will be disseminated via the West York High School Football Hall of Fame website.
Once presented as an eligible nominee, a candidate who is not elected shall automatically be reconsidered annually until he/she has been considered for 5 years. Thereafter, re-nomination may occur at any time. The Board will notify any nominator and their nominee via email if not selected that year.
The Board Members shall be comprised of people from the following list:
-
The chairperson
-
A retired or former West York High School football coach
-
A former player
-
A community member
All Board Members shall be appointed by the Chairperson of the Hall of Fame committee. The Board Members may serve on the committee as long as the chairperson sees fit. At any time, there shall be no fewer than 3 members and no more than 7 members.
If a board member resigns for appropriate circumstances, the remaining Board Members will nominate someone to complete that term.
If the chairperson resigns, the new chairperson will be selected at the varsity head football coach at the time of selection.
Board Members
The Board Members shall meet at a time determined by the Chairman in order to review the Talent Committee’s recommendations for Hall of Fame inductees. The quorum for any meeting at which the Ratification of candidates shall take place shall be a majority of members. Background information on each nominee should be distributed to Board Members by the Talent Committee prior to the meeting, and members should familiarize themselves with the nominees prior to Ratification. Each Talent Committee Member shall have one vote, and all votes shall carry equal weight. To be elected, a nominee must receive a number of votes equal to 75% of the members present at the meeting, and the vote must be ratified by the Board. Nominees shall be discussed in alphabetical or chronological order as designated by the Chairman.
The outcome of the verbal vote will be shared with the Board Members only. If, in the opinion of the Board Members (as evidenced by failure to obtain the 75% threshold described above), no nominee nominated in a particular year is worthy of election to the Hall, so be it; it is not necessary to induct new members each year. At the same time, there shall be a limit on the number of members who may gain admission in a given year to 4 players or teams, 1 coach, 1 administrator and 1 supporter.
Election Process
The induction ceremony shall take place prior to the start of a varsity football home game designated by the Board. Those elected into the Hall of Fame will be notified by March 31st of the same year.
